Kashiwagi Hachimura opens with Lakers game

Satoru Hachimura made his first start of the season for the Los Angeles Lakers and had a strong performance in the Lakers’ 112-98 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night.

He finished with 19 points, six rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes of action. He shot 60 percent (6-of-10) from the field and 33 percent (2-of-6) from three-point range.

Hachimura was also active on defense, helping the Lakers limit the Spurs to 35 points in the third quarter. He finished the game with a plus-minus of +17.

Lakers head coach Darvin Ham said he wanted to see Hachimura be more aggressive inside, and the Japanese forward responded in a big way on Sunday night. He attacked the basket early and often and was able to finish off his scoring with physical contact.

With the Lakers missing LeBron James (on IR), Satoru Hachimura was a revelation. He proved that he can make valuable contributions to the team on both offense and defense.

The Lakers’ next game is Tuesday night at home against the Memphis Grizzlies.
