Klay Thompson moves into top 10 all-time in 3-point field goal attempts as Warriors look to compete for title

Klay Thompson has passed Jamal Crawford to move into 10th place on the NBA’s all-time three-point field goal list. Thompson accomplished the feat in the second quarter of the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center Arena, which the Warriors won 106-95. Entering the elite list solidifies Thompson’s status as one of the elite scorers in NBA history.

Warriors hope to compete for championship

The Golden State Warriors hope to return to NBA championship contention in 2024. The team had a tough season in 2022-2023, finishing the regular season with a record of 44 wins and 38 losses. They were eventually eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals.

The Golden State Warriors maintained team cohesion by extending Draymond Green. The Warriors’ famed Stephen Curry-Klay Thompson backcourt defensive core and offensive instigator signed a new four-year contract worth $100 million in the offseason.

The team’s most notable change was sending homegrown guard Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards. In return, the Warriors received experienced point guard Chris Paul.

While there are questions about Paul’s fit with the team, he has played very well so far. In the first two games of the season against the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings, he averaged an impressive 12.0 points and 10.5 assists in 33.5 minutes per game.

Thompson’s contract situation

Klay Thompson, 33, is in the final season of his five-year, $189.9 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2023-2024 season. According to a new report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Thompson and Golden State Warriors management are still far from agreeing on a new contract.

Klay Thompson said in an interview with the media on Oct. 27 that his focus is on the task at hand and playing at a high level throughout the season. He believes the contract issue will eventually be resolved.
